In the early months of 2018, we collaborated with dedicated community members from Nobola, Nyabahegi, and Isebanda to establish a protective fence around the ECD Community Center in Lwanhima. This collective effort aimed to create a secure and welcoming environment for the children, ensuring a safe space for their education. In a partnership with the organization Tahea Mwanza, we further enhanced the playground by adding a slide and two different types of swings, fostering an enjoyable learning experience for the children.

Throughout 2018, a total of 83 children, comprising 53 girls and 30 boys, were registered at the community center, and it is noteworthy that none of these children had disabilities. Concurrently, we initiated and fortified child protection and safety committees in the three neighborhoods. These committees, following our guidance, have successfully highlighted various challenges faced by children under the age of eight. The impact has been significant, prompting the government to provide permanent teachers for the center.

Interestingly, the construction of the ECD Community Center fence had an unexpected ripple effect within the community. Witnessing their collective capabilities, community members were inspired to explore additional initiatives. This newfound sense of empowerment led them to embark on a larger construction project, which will be detailed in a forthcoming success story. The spirit of collaboration and community-driven efforts continues to shape positive transformations beyond our initial expectations.
