Our home visit took an unexpected turn, proving to be a success beyond our initial expectations.

Earlier this year, Jose from AGH and Samweli from the community ventured to Bujora with the aim of educating families about violence towards women and children. During a visit to one particular household, they adhered to the customary practice of seeking out the head of the household. To their surprise, they found the man of the house resting on a mat, covered with a blanket. In consideration of his illness and need for rest, they refrained from waking him and instead engaged in discussions with others present in the house.

As the conversation unfolded, centered around a SASA! program poster depicting a man beating his wife with children as witnesses, the unexpected occurred. The previously sleeping man suddenly “woke up” and, without exchanging greetings, actively contributed to the conversation. He shared his own experience of having endured violence, expressing deep concern about the issue. To our utmost surprise, he requested that we continue educating people on this crucial subject. Remarkably, he has since maintained a friendship with Samweli, demonstrating the transformative impact of our outreach efforts.
