Empowering Through Protection: AGO Social Protection Program's Commitment to Gender Equality, Inclusive Communities, and Holistic Development

The AGO Social Protection Program is dedicated to rebalancing gender power dynamics and fostering inclusive community structures that contribute to national development. Our focus extends to advancing the rights of adolescent girls, particularly those facing marginalization and vulnerability, such as girls with disabilities. Through the provision of psychosocial support for victims of violence and those with disabilities, we implement targeted interventions aimed at preventing transactional relationships between young adolescent girls and older men.
Additionally, AGO conducts social accountability interventions to empower out-of-school adolescent girls and young women, enabling their engagement in decent work for enhanced employability and poverty reduction. The program aims to achieve two overarching goals: firstly, empowering girls and young women while shifting societal norms to prevent gender-based violence, promote disability inclusion, discourage transactional sex, and reduce the risks of HIV and unintended pregnancies. Secondly, promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, self-employment, and decent work for out-of-school adolescent girls and young women.
AGO remains committed to the Safe Spaces model, providing integrated asset-building programs for both in and out-of-school girls, supporting their ideas and initiatives. The organization advocates for the adoption and implementation of the PtG methodology and Intentional Design, aligning with the National Plan of Action to End Violence against Women and Children (NPA-VAWC) and the National Accelerated Investment Agenda for Adolescent Health and Wellbeing (NAIA-AHW), both in line with Tanzania’s Five Years Development Plan III (FYDP III). Collaborative efforts with sister organizations amplify resources dedicated to advancing girls’ rights in Tanzania, employing strategies such as Scheme Federation, Youth Savings and Loan Associations (YSLA), Ultra Poor Graduation Program (UPG), Income Generation, and Job Creation for Poor Families (Family Development Plan). Apprenticeship Skill Placement and Mentorship, and the introduction of Safe Shelter and Reintegration for survivors of violence and girls on the move.
