In collaboration with the government and local health workers, AGO uses a gender-transformative approach to turn men into allies of change while ensuring all children in Sengerema District attend school. The community outreach provides essential education on everything from maternal nutrition and reproductive health to child protection and economic empowerment.Since the introduction of the Mapema Education Scheme project in 2019 we have reached 20,000 men and boys, in Sengerema, Ilemela and Nyamagana in the Mwanza region.

“It hasn’t been easy. Other women look at me with envy, saying this has never happened in our village,” shared Lucia, Japhet’s wife, as she recounted the curious glances she receives when attending clinic visits with her husband in Nyamatongo village.
